The Summer Firefly smart night-light was inspired by a summer weekend spent in Rhinebeck, New York and my first experience seeing fireflies. The brightly colored Summer Firefly was made using an Arduino micro controller, RGB LEDs, a 9V battery and a photo resistor. The photo resistor works as a switch and controls the LEDs. When it is dark the bottom of the plush toy glows a series of colors from bright pink to turquoise; when it is exposed to light the lights turn off. The FireFly is not just a night light or plush toy, but a vehicle for my personal memories of summer.
